Jim Graves decides to take on Bachmann again in 2014 election and now Minnesotans know they can make a difference in this race by coming out in a big way to get rid of the congresswoman.

An email arrived from a friend yesterday afternoon. I was just about ready to settle in to watch the Masters (golf tournament) when the email prompted me to see the announcement by Jim Graves that he would take on Bachmann again. The friend who sent it wasn’t exactly happy with me in 2012 because I had decided to sit that campaign out, thinking that Graves had no chance, and I did no work in the effort and contributed only a few bucks to the campaign. My bad!

In that 2012 election, Jim Graves came within a single percentage point of beating Bachmann; and this he did while many active Democrats, who could have helped in significant ways, sat on the side-lines. I was one who sat it out.

So, I jumped at the news yesterday and went immediately to the web site and pitched in by making a significant contribution to the Graves campaign. With it, I declared that I am all-in this time! I can drive two miles from my home and be in Bachmann Territory, as the Rupublicans call the sixth congressional district. In 2014, I’ll carve out a niche for myself and I’ll make regular financial contributions to the cause. I’ll also roll up my sleeves and go to work in ways that the Graves campaign wants me to. I’ll also try to get other good and positive citizens involved in ending the Great Minnesota Embarrassment, as I like to call Ms. Bachmann.

Here’s what I want you to consider, no matter where you’re from: think about the career of Michele Bachmann and ask yourself if you want any congressional district in America to be represented by such an incapable and negative person. Bachmann is a divider and not a unifier. She stirs up negative feelings and not hope and optimism. Her attitude and approach cannot build a better America but only a divided and bitter one. Americans are tired of division in Congress and they want members of the House and the Senate to cooperate and work together as adults.

It is time to reject Bachmann’s approach. It is unMinnesotan to the core. Within the hour of the Graves’ announcement yesterday, Bachmann’s campaign organization struck back with a negative attack against her probable opponent. The approach seems to be one that links Graves with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Graves, of course, will counter by showing his independence and highlighting his success as a businessman and his rational approach to solving problems.

There will be no presidential race in 2014 and that always hurts turnout. Graves will need to create a strategy that turns voters out. He’ll need a strong volunteer army to help him do that. The better the turnout the better the chance we can thrown Bachmann out on her can.

There is pretty clear evidence around the state that the negativism and pettiness of Michele Bachmann has worn on voters and they’ve tired of it. They want representation from someone more positive and creative.

My faith in the sixth district got a tremendous shot in the arm last year. I think the people up there are tired of being embarrassed by Bachmann’s constant harangues and they are ready for a change. I’ll be danged proud of them if they dismiss Bachmann and move on with someone of whom they can be justly proud.

Even though spring is officially here, it’s colder than a witch’s chest in Minnesota. (I don’t know if I’ll get away with that or not!)

Let’s put it this way. The witch is Michele Bachmann, sixth district congresswoman from Minnesota, and she is one cold bitch… er, witch! I’ve never met a chillier dame in my life. Whenever she opens her mouth, the winds come blowing down from the great northwest and the entire state is blanketed in ice. I can’t explain the science behind this, but if we ever want to join the warming trend that the rest of the nation is talking about, we’ve got to get rid of the icy congresswoman.

Here it is, the third day of spring and it is barely going to get above freezing in Minnesota. The cold must have addled Mrs. Bachmann’s brain because it is on the loose again and the rattling sound it is making is overwhelming.

The congresswoman turned on President Obama again last week. I don’t quite get it. There’s all kinds of work to do in congress and the lady (if you dare call her that) from Minnesota wants to attack the president as if the campaign has started up again. Mrs. Bachmann is on some kind of rant about the dangers of Obama Care – that it is going to kill untold numbers of woman, children and seniors. No one can get a handle on what she’s trying to say because it’s all so irrational. There ought to be some kind of law protecting us from the woman’s explosive mouth.

People all around the state are wondering.

“Uh, what? Would you repeat that part about the movie projectionists in the White House who are forced to spend the nights there in case one of the first daughters wakes up and wants to watch a movie a 3 o’clock in the morning.”

“Umm! And then, repeat that part about the part about the dog walkers who you say the White House hires to take the presidential dog out for midnight strolls. And also that stuff about the five chefs on Air Force One.”

How do you make this stuff up, congresswoman? You are a fantasy machine! You ought to leave Congress and go on out there to California where I think you can buy that rope legally.

Charles Blow, writing in the NY Times this week, said of Bachmann: “She burst back on the scene with a string of lies and half-truths that could have drawn a tsk tsk from Tom Sawyer.”

Blow goes on to say that “people like Bachmann represent everything that is wrong with the Republican Party. She and her colleagues are hyperbolic, reactionary, ill-informed and ill-intentioned…”

The goofy congresswoman from Minnesota has spent the last week making a huge fool out of herself again. In doing it, she also deeply stains the good name and reputation of the Grand Old Party.

Listen, she’s just got to be beaten in 2014. Even Republicans are coming around to realize this. Mercifully, we can not let her go back to Washington. It’s doing some serious damage to her brain. We’ve got to get her into some kind of institution for treatments. She’s got to be kept away from sharp objects and self-published books by fools.

Oh, my! I hope you haven’t spent time following the Michele Bachmann saga of the last week. Of course, I have! I’m hooked on the drama. I find it more intriguing than even Downton Abbey. Insane woman destroys her reputation while her family, including the Lady Dowager, stands helplessly by with no way to stop her.

The woman has utterly destroyed herself and no one – no one, mind you – not even the Koch brothers – take her seriously anymore. She’s nothing but a silly comic book character whose antics go far beyond the realm of the believable. And, her stuff is not selling anymore! No one is buying it. No one really gives a damn about the stuff that spews from her lips (as ugly as it is).

Ms. Bachmann is like the little boy who cried wolf just too many times. Now folks just turn and laugh at her. The rage in her eyes concerned us once. It doesn’t anymore because we’ve all become aware that is just an inner imbalance in her that can’t be controlled.

She doesn’t draw crowds any longer. News people of all stripes refuse to take her seriously. If they need something comical for one of their broadcasts they might run a piece about her utter stupidity, but she doesn’t get serious time anymore. Her stuff has grown stale and no one cares. How sad!

The Washington Post gave Ms. Bachmann four Pinocchios again last week for some of her ranting against the President. Again, I say: "Who cares?" We’re so used to it now; though it remains pretty embarrassing for those other members of the House of Representatives.

A little piece of her congressional district is just a mile or so up the road from our place. I plan to get involved over there in a campaign to end her tragic tenure in the U.S. Congress. Enough, already! Really!

Bachmann v. Graves

Bachmann vs. Graves in Minnesota’s 6^th District is a race worth watching!

My regular readers will not be surprised that I am keeping a close eye on the race in the sixth congressional district here in Minnesota (the seat in the House of Representatives now held by the illustrious and/or infamous Michele Bachmann). It’s a long-long-shot that a Democrat could unseat Bachmann in this very conservative district, but Bachmann did not do herself any favors this summer when she acted very much like Senator Joe McCarthy (of the mid-fifties) and began seeing boogey men everywhere on the hill and accused another Minnesota congressional representative (Keith Ellison) of being a tool of the Muslim Brotherhood. It would have been laughable had it not be so awful!

Bachmann is crazier than a hoot-owl, but she’s got a district that is custom tailored for her insanities. Jim Graves, a solid, reputable and successful businessman, with roots in St. Cloud, is challenging Bachmann. His campaign has announced that an internal poll shows that he has closed the biggest part of the gap that Bachmann has historically had in that district and numbers are now within the margin of error. Naturally, Bachmann’s campaign has pooh-poohed this. Graves’ poll was done by a very reputable firm, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, of Washington, D.C.. This is not a firm that is willing to put its reputation on the line just to deliver a client some phony numbers.

Now, it’s got to be remembered that Bachman is just now starting to crank up her campaign and she’s begun to hit Carver County and Wright County hard. This is gold territory for Bachmann and will deliver her overwhelming support. She spent a full day last week down in Waconia, a relatively busy community, just south of our farm.

Graves claims that his campaign is making solid in-roads into the district’s independent voters and they have swung over to his side this year. Though Bachmann has more than two million bucks in her campaign coffers, it has to be remembered that Graves is no piker and may be willing to spend his own money quite freely if it really looks like he has a chance to win. His treasury now has only a bit over three-hundred thousand in the bank.

It also has to be noted that the last two Bachmann campaigns had the advantage of running against a split ticket because of the presence of independent candidates. That’s not the case this year. Bachmann has to do it Mano-a-Mano. We’ll see if this might make the difference.

I’m not shilling for Graves, but he could use some contributions from those who would like to see him win this race. I’ve sent some money and I’ll send more today. Please, won’t you join in and send what you can to Jim Graves for Congress.

Why the Super Committee failed?

Here’s the truth about the Super Committee: It was destined to fail!

Do you want the unvarnished story – the real deal – about why the Super Committee failed as we expected it would? If so, then read this exceptional story in the NY Times. It very clearly explains the reasons for the failure. Then – understanding that – you can go ahead and blame whoever you want to blame.

Don’t accept a lot of political hocus-pocus about all of this! The reason the Committee failed is simple. Republicans didn’t want to increase taxes on the wealthy and Democrats did.

Most economists in the nation agree that this is no time for government to cut spending. Doing so will only increase the desperateness of these economic bad times. This is the time to pour money into the economic engine in order to get it chugging away – but not borrowed money. Get people to work! That is the crucial requirement. The Republican plan won’t do that.

Democrats were not going to put their seal of approval on a plan that would cut, cut, cut and drive the economy into deeper recession.

Now the battle lines will be exceedingly clear in the 2012 presidential election campaign. Democrats will argue that the Republicans would not increase revenues in order to stimulate job growth and the Republicans will argue that Democrats have failed to manage the economy and stimulate job growth.

The simple question will be this: Who believes who?

The Republicans will have a pot of money to spend on the campaign. Remember? Corporations may now freely give unlimited funds to political candidates. Corporation executives are part of the wealthy elite. Most of them (though not all) do not want their taxes increased.

President Obama may break all the records in existence for campaign fund raising. He’s already stocking it up. Millions and millions of little guys will give him all they can afford.

In November, I think it will be close. However, if Obama wins the race but the House remains under Republican control, nothing will change.

If you’re a progressive and want to make a difference, contribute to Democrats who are running for election to the House of Representatives. If we get a strong House and a strong Senate, the Bush tax cuts will not be extended in January of 2013.

Do not forget for a second where and when this financial crisis began! It was during the Bush administration that the ugly housing crisis began. It was then that the banks ran into trouble and had to be bailed out to avoid a total crash.

I hope Republicans are made to pay for their total inaction over the last four years. They have virtually allowed the economy to fall into ruins in order to bring down the President of the United States. These have been ugly political times – by far, the ugliest of my life time.

Gingrich leads in latest polls!

You’ve seen it. You’re probably as surprised as I am. Newt Gingrich actually leads in the current polling on the Republican race. Amazing! At least he’s a bright guy – a little whacky, but bright. Have you heard his latest? He wants to put school children to work doing the janitorial work and other work around the schools. He says it would be cheaper than paying union janitors. Actually, I don’t think it would – not by the time you organize such a program and provide the supervision that the children would need. He wants to instill in poor, young people an ethic of work. There is some merit in what he’s saying, but the whole concept needs serious thought. We don’t want to lapse back into the era that preceded our child labor laws.

Bachmann is falling out of sight in those polls. Her only prayer is a big win in the Iowa caucus procedure; however, the other candidates are now getting themselves organized in Iowa and I think it spells the collapse of the Bachmann effort.

You're aware, aren't you, that Michele Bachmann has a book out. I don't recommend it (I'll bet that comes as a surprise to you). It's called Core of Conviction. Mother Jones Magazine, is fact checking it. They begin by saying, "There's enough to dispute in the first 13 pages that by the time she announces, on page 14, that she was born in Waterloo, Iowa, you want to ask for a birth certificate." My only advice is that you not get the book. You don't want to waste either your time or your money.

Plain and simple, Bachmann is fiction. Don't think of her as a true story. She's something she has dreamed up in her own simple mind.

Golf Down Under

It was a wonderful golf course (Royal Melbourne Golf Club) that the American and International professional golf teams played on down in Australia. I’ve never been down there. I’d love to travel there someday, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

The golf event was wonderful. Team golf is terribly interesting and compelling. Such sportsmanship and camaraderie. It makes golf special in my mind. I wish it was possible to make it a more common sport among children in all economic classes. There are some programs (The First Tee) that try to do this, but they just don’t get deeply enough into the areas they need to reach.
