GOP Ignores Global Warming

                  God, as I imagine Her!

I swear to God! I really do. She shakes her head also,
unable to believe the stubbornness of some people
–
unable to believe the risks they’re willing to take with
the lives of future generations. I swear to God.

I spend considerable amounts of time contemplating
what she might look like
–  God that is – and how
she can be so patient with us.

As Andrew Sullivan says on his blog (The Dish*), “…the Republicans in Tampa either ignored climate change or flat-out mocked it.”
by Charlie Leck

There wasn’t any mention in the speeches in Tampa, from the Republicans, of global warming – neither yea or nay!

Andrew Sullivan, on his very popular blog, goes on to list “what else the party has ignored.”

“The thunderstorm and tornado swarms of early 2011, including the monstrous Joplin, MO., disaster. Hurricane Irene, which inundated much of the Northeast. The worst heat wave in Russia in 1,000 years. Record-shattering heat and drought in much of the United States this year. The lowest level of Arctic sea ice ever measured. The melting of virtually the entire ice sheet of Greenland, something not see in 30 years of satellite measurements.
“And yet climate change is barely a blip on the political radar in this year’s campaign. The topic appears in the Republican convention platform only in one passage berating the Obama administration for elevating climate change to a ‘severe threat’ equivalent to foreign aggression.”

I swear to God! I really do. She shakes her head also, unable to believe the stubbornness of some people – unable to believe the risks they’re willing to take with the lives of future generations. I swear to God.

It's my birthday today. My goodness! 72 already. The image of God (above) is a birthday treat to myself today. It's a computer drawing I did that was based on an image I found at a web site called loverne.com, a site that I'm not too sure is entirely reputable; however, one probably ought to take a chance or two on one's 72nd. Don't you think?

How to Fight Global Warming

I refuse to gamble on this matter of global warming because it's my grandkids' future!

There are things each of can do to fight against global warming! To do nothing is… is what?... to do nothing is unforgivable! So, get on with it!
by Charlie Leck

Several readers of yesterday’s blog emailed me with the very direct and obvious question: “So, what can we do? Really!”

I answered each email with some ideas about how we can be involved in convincing our “powers that be” that the U.S. must get on the band-wagon with other nations of the world and commit to fighting global warming with strict regulations concerning industrial emission standards.

Now, today, I read a NY Times column by Eric Klinenberg that outlines how we must keep our nation’s leaders conscious of the problem. This is a good piece and it should be read by all of you. So, give it some attention. After all, it’s Sunday morning and you’ve got a few moments to read some worthwhile stuff – and this is really worth the time you’ll spend reading it.

Some industries do not want to make the necessary adjustment to limit emissions and they spend millions to lobby Congress not to pass stronger regulations. We, as individual citizens, must make our voices heard in Congress, speaking up for stringent regulations that match those of other leading nations which have chosen to fight global warming.

The U.S. must join with other nations to fight global warming. Our national voice must not be absent.

Again, let me remind you that this is a fight you must wage for your grandchildren!

“For the moment, we have an opportunity to make fundamental changes to the way our country deals with the environment, changes that would lock in public acceptance of climate change. But we have to act quickly — not only because the crisis is urgent, but because one good blizzard could change a lot of minds.” [Eric Klinenberg]
