It’s an important day in our nation – to think and remember and wonder – as so many other nations strive to achieve what we have!

Such a wondrous freedom we have – to speak our minds freely and proudly and responsibly. It is a morning off for me – to enjoy the peace and quiet of my home.
Morning in summer – a hot
hot summer among the lakes and trees –
where the loons chatter and trill
and the dry brush crackles beneath my feet.
The sunlight is but sprinkled about
beneath the thick canopy of leaves
that barely stir and leave the residents attentive
to the crackling, symphonic sound beneath my feet.
