It’s
lovely here in Minnesota this morning and, here in this little corner of the
world, all seems so well. I must remind myself at such a time that there is
still hatred and cowardice to defeat!

It is Easter morning!
When I was in
graduate school, a large group of students would meet at dawn on Easter morning,
to greet one another and sing hymns of praise. As we arrived, our greeting was
always the same.
“The Lord is
risen!” one would say to another.
“He is risen
indeed!” the other would reply.
It is difficult
for a Christian to explain Easter to other Christians. Imagine how difficult it
is to expound upon it to non-Christians.
I like to do it
this way! Our Lord, in his earthly life, was the finest example of God’s
wondrous love that the world has ever known. It was a love so enormous that it willingly laid down its life
that we might see the power of such love.
On Easter, the
message is proclaimed to us: Love cannot be slain and buried away in a tomb!
Love conquers all things – even death. The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed!
As I said in an email to
one of my daughters this morning, the Apostle Paul’s most important comments in
his letters to believers were probably those about love…
“Love conquers
all things! Even death cannot defeat it!”
“…if I have all
things, but have not love, I am nothing!”
“Love never
ends!”
“Faith, hope and
love abide; but the greatest of these is love.”
If we believe
these things about love – that love conquers all things – then how can we be
surprised that he is risen. He is risen indeed!
