Romney’s Biggest Flip-Flop

Listen, politicians have a right to change their minds; but they also deserve scrutiny when they do.
by Charlie Leck

Here’s the one thing you need to examine when a politician does a flip-flop on an issue: Why? Was it strictly to put himself/herself in a better position for endorsement, nomination or election?

Romney has been shaky on a number of issues and has several times changed his mind on them. I’ve looked at those and I’m comfortable with his statements on most of them (even though I disagree with him). His reasoning seems sound and his changes of mind might indeed not have anything to do with politics.

There is one glaring exception. I can only say, “Okay, he flipped and flopped on this one and it looks political to me. The important thing is that American women understand his change of mind and what he is saying now.”

Romney on the Right to Choose and the Right to Life
This is a huge issue. One that deeply concerns American women and one which they should keep themselves informed about. I’ve always side-stepped this issue by saying it is a concern for women. It’s their bodies we’re talking about here and I don’t think a man really has a right to meddle very deeply into this whole issue.

Women should be aware of the new Romney stance!
In 2002, Romney was saying things like this: “I will preserve and protect a woman’s right to choose!” I like that! That’s where I am! It’s a woman’s body and she should have the right to decide what’s best for it. As a compromise, I’m okay with what the Supreme Court came up with in their historic decision on Roe v. Wade.

Now, Romney is saying something very poignantly different: “The right next step in the – in the fight to preserve the sanctity of life is to see Roe v. Wade overturned.”

Whoa! That is a major turn-around – a huge flip-flop – and I personally believe it is for political reasons only. Romney needs the strong conservative vote and that conservative side, including a whopping percentage of men, opposes any type of abortion.

Moderate men and progressive men seem, by a double huge percentage, to step aside and say that this is a women’s issue and should be decided by women. They support a women’s right to choose. So, of course, do politically moderate and progressive women.

ROMNEY FAVORS OVER-TURNING ROE v. WADE!
Shout it from the rooftops! Proclaim it from the mountains! Carry the message to every state! For women, it will be a major factor in who they vote for in 2012 – one way or the other!

If Romney is endorsed as the official Republican candidate he may try to waffle on this position. It will be an interesting bit of politics for us to watch out for. Once he wins the Republican Party over, he is going to need to regain the women’s vote in order to win in November 2012. He may have trouble doing it.

Your attention please!
George Romney has made a major flip-flop and he may want to make a back-flip-flop! Watch out for that!
