Arizona
has a real and viable Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate! I kid you not!

His name is
Richard Carmona. He was Surgeon General under President George W. Bush. He left
his job after one term, complaining that President Bush was more concerned with
politics than medical science. He is now a candidate for the U.S. Senate-- in Arizona!
Carmona can win
if he can coalesce women who’ve been offended by matters having to do with
reproduction; if he can rally Arizona's strong Hispanic population (Carmona was
born in the U.S. of Puerto Rican immigrants); and if he can get strong,
unanimous support from those residents who are offended by the state’s strident
immigration law.
As the
Washington Post says in its story about Carmona, there is also some hope among Democrats that he can
leap over tall buildings.
It all sounds
wildly impossible, but this story about Carmona and his
candidacy makes for really good reading.
Keep your eye on
Richard Carmona. If he gets off to a good start, you may want to send him a few
bucks for his campaign.
